Nawiri Africa is a young women-led grassroot social justice centre dedicated to empowering girls and women in underserved communities through initiatives that promote Gender Equality, Social justice and climate action. Our organisation believes in fostering sustainable development by harnessing the potential of girls and women, advocating for their rights on local, national and international platforms to create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that by investing in the inclusion, skills development and socio-economic empowerment of girls and women, we can attain an inclusive society that celebrates and upholds values of gender equality, social justice and environmental sustainability for sustainable development in Africa.

KEY INITIATIVES
Community Outreach and Awareness Campaigns:
Nawiri Africa educates communities on gender equality, human rights, social justice and climate change impacts. Utilizing workshops, seminars, public forums, theatre storms, murals and media campaigns, these efforts aim to challenge harmful gender norms and stereotypes while fostering awareness.
- Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution:
The organization promotes peace and reconciliation in conflict-affected areas by addressing root causes of violence. Engaging youth, women and community leaders, Nawiri Africa fosters dialogue, tolerance and understanding to build inclusive and sustainable peace processes. - Advocacy and Policy Reform:
Nawiri Africa works to influence policies and legal frameworks that promote gender equality, human rights and social justice. Collaborating with communities, governments, and stakeholders, the organization drives change at local, national and regional levels to combat discrimination and inequality. - Youth Empowerment and Leadership Development:
Through leadership training, civic engagement and mentorship, Nawiri Africa empowers young people to develop skills, pursue their passions and contribute positively to their communities, fostering a new generation of leaders. - Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability:
Tackling climate change, Nawiri Africa promotes sustainable development through advocacy, awareness and grassroots projects. The organization champions renewable energy adoption, environmental preservation and community resilience against climate impacts. - Psychosocial Support Services:
Nawiri Africa provides psychosocial support to individuals and communities affected by trauma, violence and adversity. Services include counseling, support groups and trauma healing workshops, aiding recovery and well-being

Impact:
Since our inception, Nawiri Africa has reached thousands of girls, youth and women with life-changing programs and initiatives. Our efforts have led to increased school enrollment and retention rates among girls, improved economic opportunities for women, increased reporting of GBV cases breaking the norm of silence, strengthened youth leadership and civic engagement, enhanced community resilience to conflict and climate change, promoting human rights, and empowering communities to build a better future. Some of our notable achievements include:
- Empowerment of 5300 girls in schools through donations of dignity kits.
- Partnered with AMREF to do sensitisation on HIV and Malaria, reached 3300 community members through community engagements.
- Reached 250 secondary going girls with termly scholarships.
- Increased community participation in climate forums and engagements, 60,000 mangroves planted.
- Support provided to victims of GBV through access to justice and economic empowerment ofand referral of 403 child abuse cases.
- Sensitization of 22,000 youths on peace and security.
- Provision of weekly porridge to 350 children under the “Tunawiri Pamoja” porridge program in Kiwandani.
- Advocating for policy changes and legal reforms to protect the rights of women, children ie the Kilifi GBV policy, youth policy and child protection policy.
- Spearheading the end femicide campaign in Kilifi sensitizing boda boda riders and community on the proper referral pathway for GBV cases.
- Establishing partnerships with governments, international organizations and local NGOs to leverage resources and maximize our impact in the communities we serve.
- We erected a structure at the Kilifi police station-Gender office, to enhance GBV survivor’s privacy when documenting their cases.
Area of focus
Nawiri Africa is based in Kilifi county-Kenya, currently we carry out activities in Kilifi and Mombasa counties.
Committed to combating climate change, Nawiri Africa promotes climate resilience, sustainable resource management and environmentally friendly practices. Through education, advocacy, and community-driven projects, the organization works to protect the planet for future generations.
Understanding the vital link between peace and sustainable development, Nawiri Africa engages in peacebuilding through conflict resolution training, community dialogues, and initiatives that prevent and resolve conflicts. The organization promotes social cohesion, fights inequality and injustice, defends human rights, and amplifies the voices of marginalized groups to ensure a life of dignity for all.
Recognizing the potential of young people as catalysts for positive change, Nawiri Africa equips youth with skills, knowledge, and support to become leaders, innovators, and active participants in advocating for policies and improving their communities.
Nawiri Africa champions gender equality as a fundamental human right and a cornerstone for global harmony and sustainable development. The organization focuses on empowering girls and women by dismantling barriers, addressing harmful practices, and advocating for policies promoting gender parity. Efforts include tackling gender-based violence (GBV) advancing sexual & reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and promoting equality in education, employment, governance and decision-making.
